WHAT IS WITWAR?

Well, I’m glad you asked!

While it has deviated from its original concept, the continuing purpose of WITWAR is to provide a forum for posts by John and his motley band of occasional collaborators on a variety of topics, including technology, music, movies, TV and comic books.  We intend to provide spirited intellectual and social discourse for everyone involved, including you!

MEET THE WITWAR-RIORS:

JOHN

Hi there, folks.  I’m John,  the manager of (and primary contributor to) WITWAR, and this is my bio:

Born and raised in suburban New Jersey, I managed to land a dream job at a major comic book publisher right out of college.  And while the experience was phenomenal, all good things eventually come to an end.  So I packed up my belongings and shipped off to Boston, where I’m currently attempting to find a new place for myself in the world (and hoping that the past 10 years’ worth of education and work experience weren’t a total waste of time.)  When I’m not wrestling with that existential quandary, I enjoy reading comics, playing video games, watching movies and listening to oft-overlooked music.  I created Operation Backlog Slog as a way of putting a clever and positive spin on my reduced disposable income.

NERD IN A NUTSHELL

I’m an early-twenties female in the Boston area. I enjoy reading, science-fiction, RPGs (of the pencil and paper variety), videogames (mostly rhythm, puzzle, RPGs, or RPG-influence action/aventure games), board games, theater-style LARPing, movies, comics, gadgets, fixing computers, and television.

I have no illusions about being “hardcore.” I’m not, nor do I aspire to be.

For what it’s worth, my “geek cred” is as follows:

Favorite TV shows, past and present: Stargate SG-1, Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, House, Burn Notice, Battlestar Galactica

Favorite movies: What Dreams May Come, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Matrix, Star Wars (the original trilogy), Harry Potter, Titan A.E.

I’m a pop culture junkie with an affinity for but not limited to: politics, feminism, fiction, nonfiction, women’s college basketball, movies, music, and television. I am a devotee of Joss Whedon and Aaron Sorkin, and I read Newsweek religiously. And I hold opinions on all of those things, which I will be writing down frequently.
